New version of Settlers of Catan with a reworked rulebook, revised graphics and stronger card stock, but still the same game. Players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces. Players collect these resources (cards)—wood, grain, brick, sheep, or stone—to build up their civilizations to get to 10 victory points and win the game.
There’s always something you will be short of so you will need to try and trade commodities with other players, or more expensively, with the bank. Build roads, settlements and cities, and perhaps thwart your opponents’ plans, but look out for the robber stealing all your hard won materials! Easy to learn, allow about an hour or 90 mins per game. Ages 10+, 3-4 players, expansions for 5-6 players and other game variations are available.
If you are fed up with playing Monopoly at your family get-togethers, try this instead. More strategy and trading with other players involved, you make your own luck to a certain extent, it doesn’t go on so long, nobody gets eliminated from the game early, and exactly who is winning is not entirely obvious till the end of the game. Once you’ve played it you will also know the true meaning of the Wood for Sheep T-Shirt.
